Browns Waive QB Joe Callahan

The Cleveland Browns have placed QB Joe Callahan on waivers Monday, which could be a sign that the team will activate QB Robert Griffin III from injured reserve in the coming days, per Nate Ulrich.

Callahan, 23, wound up signing a three-year, $1.62 million contract with the Packers as an undrafted free agent out of Wesley College back in May. He was able to make the 53-man roster as the team’s No. 3 quarterback coming out of the preseason.

The Packers elected to cut him loose last week and were hoping to sign him to their practice squad but the Saints wound up claiming him off of waivers. New Orleans also wound up in a roster crunch and cut Callahan loose back in October and he was once again claimed off waivers by the Browns.

During the preseason, Callahan threw for 499 yards while completing 61.4 percent of his passes to go along with three touchdowns and no interceptions.
