Browns Willing To Trade Up For Texas A&M QB Johnny Manziel?

Jason La Canfora reports that sources have mentioned that the Cleveland Browns are willing to trade up in the 2014 draft for Texas A&M QB Johnny Manziel.

  • Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio mentions that if this true, it could scare away some potential candidates given that they wouldn’t have any say in who their quarterback will be.

Previous reports have mentioned that the Browns are interested in Manziel, so this appears to be a pretty popular idea, at least at this point in the draft process.

The St. Louis Rams have said publicly that they will listen to offers for their No. 2 overall pick that they got from the Robert Griffin III trade with Washington. Assuming the Texans draft a quarterback No. 1 overall, there could be a bidding war for the second best quarterback or possibly even South Carolina DE Jadeveon Clowney.

Cleveland needs to come away with a quarterback this offseason and all indications are that they will either use their No. 4 overall pick or move up to get one. It’s worth noting that is a possibly smoke screen and the Browns could be targeting either different quarterback or even a different position all together.

For what it’s worth, we have the Browns selecting Manziel at No. 4 overall in our recently updated 2014 NFL Mock Draft.

  1. No smokescreen, Manziel has the whole package for the Browns. He ‘ll put excitement into that franchise. Bridgewater scares me more than Carr. Don’t like either. I’d go with Bartles before both of them

  2. Please NO. Did we learn nothing from the injuries to RG3. The NFL is not the place to run around to adlib plays. The QB’s that run around had better be very big and tough. RG3 may never be the same. The Browns front office cannot mess this draft up.

    • I definitely agree with the smoke screen idea. I believe they are trying to convince someone to trade with St. Louis so Watkins is available at number 4. If I were drafting which I’m obviously not, I would choose Watkins 1, Best Available lineman at 26 or trade down to the proper value of the best available lineman at that time. if a quarterback is rated properly with our second or third round picks I would take one there.
