Bruce Arians On Possibility Of Coaching Next Year: “It’s Probably 99-To-1 Against”

According to Tyler Dunne of B/R, former Cardinals HC Bruce Arians implied that it’s unlikely he’ll return to coaching next year, despite him recently expressing interest in the Browns’ head-coaching job.

“It’s probably 99-to-1 against,” Arians told Dunne regarding the odds of him coaching next year. 

Earlier in the week, Arians said he has no interest in the Packers’ coaching job and replacing Mike McCarthy.

“No, not at all,” Arians says in an interview with Zach Gelb. “If I ever return to coaching it will only be in Cleveland.”

Arians did, however, admit that the Packers head-coaching position is a great job.

“Yeah, it is,” Arians said. “I have no desire to coach in Green Bay.”

A few weeks ago, Arians told Ian Rapoport that the Browns are the only team he’d considered coaching.

“I would listen to the Browns,” Arians said. “And only them.”

Arians added that he’s serious about returning to coaching, despite his health issues and his wife is even on board with him returning.

“I’ve always loved Cleveland,” Arians added. “The fans, shoot, one of the best groups in the league and when I called their game this past year, I got that feeling about them.”

Arians made the decision to step down as the Cardinals’ head coach after the 2017 season due to concerns about his health.

Arians, 66, was hired by the Cardinals back in 2013 after he filled in for Colts HC Chuck Pagano while he was fighting cancer and managed to win Coach of the Year. During his five years with the Cardinals, Arians led them to a record of 49-30-1 (61.9 percent), which includes two playoff appearances and a trip to the NFC Championship game in 2015.
