Bruce Arians Thinks Carson Palmer Will Announce Return “Real Soon”

Cardinals HC Bruce Arians said Friday during an appearance on ESPN’s NFL Insiders that he believes QB Carson Palmer will announce his return for the 2017 season “real soon.”

“I think he’ll announce he’s coming back real soon,” Arian said, per Adam Schefter.

Indications have been that Palmer could be more likely to return next year, despite some recent speculation that he may instead return.

Rumors surfaced a few days ago that Palmer had pulled his kids out of school, put his home up for sale, and moved his family out of Arizona. However, multiple reports and even Palmer, himself, have refuted that his house is for sale.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media mentioned Wednesday that Larry Fitzgerald‘s decision to return for the 2017 season is a “good sign” that Palmer will also be returning next year.

According to Rapoport, “those who know them well” say that Palmer and Fitzgerald are “tied at the hip.”

Beyond that, it’s unlikely Fitzgerald would return next year if there was a chance they would have to find another quarterback.

Palmer, 37, was in the third year of his four-year, $58.5 million contract and set to make a base salary of $6.35 million for the 2016 season when the Cardinals signed him to a one-year extension worth $24.35 million before the start of the season.

In 2016, Palmer has appeared in 15 games and thrown for 4,233 yards while completing 61 percent of his passes to go along with 26 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 17 quarterback out of 34 qualifying players.

We’ll have more regarding Palmer as the news is available.
