Buccaneers Active RB Charles Sims From I.R., Cut OL Josh Allen & DT John Hughes

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced that RB Charles Sims has officially been activated from their injured reserve and waived OL Josh Allen and DT John Hughes in corresponding moves.

Tampa Bay officially designated Sims as their player to return off injured reserve a couple weeks ago, so this has been the expectation all along.

Sims, 26, is a former third-round pick of the Buccaneers back in 2014. He’s currently in the third year of his four-year, $3.104 million contract and set to make a base salary of $650,000 this season.

In 2016, Sims has appeared in four games for the Buccaneers and ran for 116 yards on 41 carries (2.8 YPC) to go along with 14 receptions for 112 yards receiving and two touchdowns.

Hughes, 27, is a former third-round pick of the Browns back in 2012. He was in the second year of his five-year, $15.6 million contract and set to make a base salary of $2.4 million for the 2016 season when the Browns cut him loose in a move that freed up $2.2 million in available cap space.

The Patriots later signed Hughes to a contract back in October but waived him to make room for TE Greg Scruggs. The Buccaneers signed him just two days after being waived.

This season, Hughes has appeared in five games and recorded six total tackles.
