Buccaneers Ask Ronde Barber To Return For Another Season

Roy Cummings of the Tampa Tribune reports that the Buccaneers have officially asked CB Ronde Barber to return for another season.

Bucs G.M. Mark Dominik announced the following this morning:

“Coach (Greg) Schiano and I met with Ronde this past week and expressed our desire for him to return to play another season with the Buccaneers. He asked us for some time to make his decision and we certainly respect that.”

Barber, 37, has said that he expects to take his time making a decision on whether or not return next season.

“They want me to play, but they have left it up to me like they have pretty much every year,” Barber said, via Tampa Bay Times. “I’ve got time, so I’m going to take my time.”

It’s actually somewhat surprising that the Buccaneers are so interest in retaining Barber for another season. He was clearly a liability in coverage and against the run. It’s really hard to imagine him getting much better at 38 years old.
