The agents for Buccaneers CB C.J. Wilson tell Pro Football Talk that their client has decided to step away from the NFL for now.

  • According to Mike Garafolo, Wilson’s focus is on his health right now and his future in football is to  be determined.

Wilson unfortunately lost two of the fingers on one of his hands in a fireworks accident that occurred on July 4.

Wilson, 25, originally signed on with the Bears as an undrafted free agent out of North Carolina State back in 2013. He later signed on to the Buccaneers’ practice squad in September of last year after he was placed on waivers by Chicago.

Wilson was set to make a base salary of $585,000 for the 2015 season before becoming an exclusive rights free agent next year.

In 2014, Wilson appeared in two games and recorded four tackles for the Buccaneers.
