Buccaneers Place CB Vernon Hargreaves On IR, Re-Sign DE Will Clarke

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced Wednesday that they’ve placed CB Vernon Hargreaves on injured reserve with a season-ending shoulder injury and re-signed DE Will Clarke.

Tampa Bay also signed OT Jarron Jones to their practice squad.

The Buccaneers’ practice squad now consists of:

  1. OL Cole Boozer
  2. DE Demone Harris
  3. TE Tanner Hudson
  4. S Godwin Igwebuike
  5. DL Jeremiah Ledbetter
  6. LB Eric Nzeocha (International)
  7. DE Patrick O’Connor
  8. RB Dare Ogunbowale
  9. WR Bobo Wilson
  10. DB Jeff Richards
  11. OT Jarron Jones

Hargreaves, 23, is a former first-round pick of the Buccaneers back in 2016. He’s currently in the third year of his four-year, $14.17 million contract that includes $14.17 million guaranteed and stands to make a base salary of $2.38 million this season.

The contract also includes a fifth-year option for the Buccaneers to pick up in 2019.

Hargreaves landed on the Buccaneers’ injured reserve last season after sustaining a hamstring injury, so this would be a big blow to Tampa Bay.

In 2017, Hargreaves appeared in nine games for the Buccaneers and recorded 42 tackles, no interceptions and five pass defenses.

Clarke, 27, is a former third-round pick of the Bengals back in 2014. He was in the final year of his four-year, $2,820,380 contract and set to make a base salary of $700,000 when the Bengals elected to cut him loose last year as they trimmed their roster down to 53 players.

The Buccaneers later signed Clake to a contract at the start of the season and brought him back on a new contract this past March. However, he was released last week.

In 2017, Clarke appeared in 15 games for the Buccaneers and recorded 15 tackles, 2.5 sacks, a fumble recovery and a pass defense. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 84 edge rusher out of 106 qualifying players.
