Buccaneers Cut 14 Players Including Larry English, Connor Barth & Jamon Meredith

Update:

The Buccaneers have released veteran K Connor Barth, according to Rick Stroud.

Barth, 28, was entering the third year of his four-year, $13.2 million contract that included $4 million guaranteed. He would have made $2 million for the 2014 season and another $3.3 million in 2015.

He spent the 2013 season on the non-football illness list.

The Buccaneers also announced the release of veteran OL Jamon Meredith on Friday.

Meredith, 28, signed a two-year, $3 million contract back in March and was set to make $1.05 million for the 2014 season with another $350,000 available in roster bonuses.

Oniel Cousins and Patrick Omameh have been battling it out for the right guard position, so we’ll have to see who ends up with the starting job.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have started the process of trimming their roster down to 53 players Friday.

Former first-round pick DE/OLB Larry English was among the players released by the Bucs.

English, 28, signed with the Buccaneers a few weeks ago, but there was no question that he was fighting for a roster spot, even though some believed he had a chance to make the team.

He has been a major disappointment since the Chargers used the No. 16 overall pick on him back in 2009. San Diego cut English loose back in July and he later worked out for the Cowboys, but didn’t receive an offer.

Last year, English appeared in nine game and recorded 18 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and a pass defensed. Pro Football Focus has English rated as the No. 27 qualifying outside linebacker in 3-4 system out of 42 players.
