Buccaneers Holding Out Hope For DE DaQuan Bowers To Return In 2012

Tampa Bay Buccaneers GM Mark Dominik confirmed that they are holding out hope that DE Da’Quan Bowers will be able to return at some point during 2012 season, despite recently tearing his Achilles tendon.

The Buc’s have subsequently placed Bowers on the PUP

“He’s going to do his rehab with Shannon Merrick, who is one of the best rehab gurus in the NFL, which is why guys have been able to come back like they have at a quicker pace,” Dominik said, via the Tampa Bay Times. “We hope it does the same thing for him.”

Tampa Bay will know look to Michael Bennett and George Johnson to step in and solidify the defensive end spot in the time being.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have announced that DE Da’Quan Bowers has suffered a torn Achilles tendon while participating in the team’s offseason program.

Bowers will undergo surgery to repair his Achilles tomorrow.

There was so much talk regarding Bowers’ knees that he wound up dropping to the Buc’s in the second-round of the 2011 draft. Bowers played in every game last season, but only six starts for them. This will allow Michael Bennett to see plenty of playing time at defensive end next season. Really tough break for Bowers.
