Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports that the Buccaneers are discussing the possibility of shutting down QB Jameis Winston for “a couple weeks to let his shoulder heal.

  • Stroud expects the Buccaneers to officially activate QB Ryan Griffin from injured reserve this week.

Winston reinjured his shoulder during the first half of Sunday’s game against the Saints and was replaced by Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Winston originally suffered an AC joint sprain in his throwing shoulder a few weeks ago. However, Ian Rapoport reports that Winston is now dealing with a rear deltoid issue on top of the AC joint sprain.

Winston, 23, is a former first-round pick of the Buccaneers back in 2015. He’s currently in the third year of his four-year, $25.35 million contract and stands to make base salaries of $615,000 and $705,000 over the next two years of the agreement.

In 2017, Winston has appeared in eight games and rushed for 1,920 yards on 246 carries (61.4 YPC) to go along with 10 touchdowns and six interceptions. He has also rushed for 51 yards. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 15 quarterback out of 34 qualifying players.

We’ll have more regarding Winston’s injury as the news is available.
