Buccaneers DT Gerald McCoy Fears He Has Torn Biceps

Buccaneers DT Gerald McCoy told reporters after Sunday’s loss to the Lions that he fears he suffered another torn biceps.

“It actually happened on the first play of the game,’’ McCoy said, via FlordiaFootballInsiders.com. “(I) just kept playing through the pain but it got to a point where I just couldn’t tolerate the pain anymore.

“I didn’t want to be out there playing with one arm. You’re not helping your team at that point. You’re being selfish. If I would have kept playing I would have hurt my team.’’

McCoy has suffered two prior biceps tears, so he obviously has a good idea of what this injury feels like.

McCoy will undergo an MRI on Monday to determine the severity of the injury, but there’s a good chance his 2017 season is over.

If tests confirm that it’s a serious injury, you can expect the Buccaneers to place McCoy on injured reserve and add someone to their roster in the coming days.

McCoy, 29, is a former first-round pick of the Buccaneers back in 2010. He’s currently in the fourth year of his eight-year, $108.56 million contract that includes $51.5 million guaranteed and stands to make a base salary of $13.25 million for the 2017 season.

Entering today’s game, McCoy had appeared in 12 games for the Buccaneers and recorded 40 tackles, five sacks, and a pass defense. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 7 interior defensive lineman out of 121 qualifying players
