Update:

Buccaneers WR Cecil Shorts tells Britt McHenry that he tore his ACL, MCL and PCL while also dislocating his knee during Sunday’s win over the Chargers.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Buccaneers WR Cecil Shorts suffered a season-ending knee injury Sunday and didn’t even accompany the team back to Tampa Bay.

Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports that the Buccaneers are “fearful” that WR Cecil Shorts may have torn all the ligaments in his right knee and suffered a dislocation during Sunday’s game.

  • Adam Caplan confirms that Shorts suffered a “significant” right knee injury.

David Chao mentioned earlier that Shorts’ injury appeared to be consistent with an ACL/MCL injury. Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater tore his ACL during the preseason and suffered a knee dislocation as a result, so this could prove to be a major knee injury for Shorts that could threaten his NFL career.

It’s likely the Buccaneers will place Shorts on season-ending injured reserve in the coming days and add someone to their roster.

Shorts, 28, is a former is a former fourth-round pick of the Jaguars back in 2011. He played out his rookie contract in Jacksonville before signing a two-year, $6 million contract with the Texans as an unrestricted free agent last year.

Houston ultimately elected to move on from Shorts coming out of the preseason. The Buccaneers later signed him to a one-year contract a few day later.

Entering today’s game, Shorts appeared in 10 games for the Buccaneers and caught 10 passes for 138 yards receiving and no touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 80 receiver out of 117 qualifying players.

We’ll have more regarding Shorts’ injury as the news is available.
