Buccaneers Signing Veteran WR Cecil Shorts To One-Year Deal

Veteran WR Cecil Shorts mentioned, per Mark Berman, that he’s in Tampa Bay finalizing a contract with the Buccaneers and will sign with the team at some point in the near future.

  • Adam Caplan reports that Shorts receives a one-year contract from the Buccaneers.
  • According to Greg Auman, Shorts receives a one-year, “prove it” contract from the Bucs.

This comes after the news from earlier in the day that the Bucs brought Shorts in for a workout on Tuesday.

Shorts has said that he’s already drawing interest from “at least five teams,” but it looks like the Buccaneers moved quickly to get a deal done.

Shorts, 28, is a former is a former fourth-round pick of the Jaguars back in 2011. He played out his rookie contract in Jacksonville before signing on with the Texans as an unrestricted free agent last year.

Shorts was is in the final year of his two-year, $6 million contract that included $2.5 million guaranteed when he agreed to a pay cut to remain with the team.

In 2015, Shorts appeared in 11 games and caught 42 passes for 484 yards receiving and two touchdowns.
