Buccaneers G J.R. Sweezy Likely To Finish Out Season On PUP List

Buccaneers HC Dirk Koetter told reporters on Monday that it’s “doubtful” G J.R. Sweezy will return to practice this week, which means he will revert to the team’s reserve/PUP list and won’t return this season, per Rick Stroud.

Tampa Bay placed Sweezy on the PUP list towards the end of the preseason. They would have to active him from the list or he would revert to the reserve/physically unable to perform list.

Sweezy, 27, was taken in the seventh-round of the 2012 NFL Draft. He’s played out his rookie contract and was one of the better guard in this year’s free agent market.

The Buccaneers signed Sweezy to a five year, $32.5 million contract that includes $14.5 million guaranteed. He stands to make a base salary of $4.5 million for the 2016 season.

In 2015, Sweezy appeared in 15 games for the Seahawks and was rated by Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 69 guard out of 82 qualifying players.
