Buccaneers GM Confirms Jameis Winston To Return As Starting QB In 2019

On Monday, Buccaneers GM Jason Licht told reporters that QB Jameis Winston will, in fact, be returning as the team’s quarterback for the 2019 season.

“Jameis Winston will be here,” Licht said, per Ryan Bass. “He has done some amazing things. Accomplished more than some of the elite quarterbacks at his age. There’s a lot to like about Jamies and he’ll be here next year.

Adam Schefter reported Sunday that the Buccaneers planned to bring back Winston as their starter for the 2019 season.

According to Schefter, the Buccaneers believe Winston is “the right man for the job and the right quarterback to get behind” moving forward.

Beyond that, Schefter says Tampa Bay doesn’t think they could find anyone who is better than Winston to serve as their starting quarterback.

Winston, 24, is a former first-round pick of the Buccaneers back in 2015. He’s set to make a base salary of $705,000 for the 2018 season and will earn $20.922 million for the 2019 season under his fifth-year option.

In 2018, Winston appeared in 11 games for the Buccaneers and thrown for 2,992 yards while completing 64.6 percent of his passes to go along with 19 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. He has also rushed for 281 yards and a touchdown.
