Buccaneers GM Jason Licht: Jameis Winston Could Miss “Extended Period” Of Time

Buccaneers GM Jason Licht said during the team’s pre-game show on Sunday that QB Jameis Winston could miss more than just the next two games, per Rick Stroud.

According to Licht, “[Th]ere is no timeline on this. This may be an extended period.” The good news, however, is that Licht did say that there is no new damage to Wisnton’s shoulder.

Last week, Buccaneers HC Dirk Koetter told reporters that Winston would be out “next couple of weeks” after doctors determined that this is the best course of action for the quarterback.

Winston reinjured his shoulder during the first half of Week 9’s game against the Saints and was replaced by Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Winston originally suffered an AC joint sprain in his throwing shoulder a few weeks ago. However, Ian Rapoport reports that Winston is now dealing with a rear deltoid issue on top of the AC joint sprain.

Winston, 23, is a former first-round pick of the Buccaneers back in 2015. He’s currently in the third year of his four-year, $25.35 million contract and stands to make base salaries of $615,000 and $705,000 over the next two years of the agreement.

In 2017, Winston has appeared in eight games and rushed for 1,920 yards on 246 carries (61.4 YPC) to go along with 10 touchdowns and six interceptions. He has also rushed for 51 yards. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 15 quarterback out of 34 qualifying players.

We’ll have more regarding Winston’s injury as the news is available.
