Buccaneers Have Some Interest In Re-Signing S Chris Conte, Will Meet At Combine

Scott Reynolds of the Pewter Report that the Buccaneers will meet with the agent for free agent S Chris Conte at this week’s Scouting Combine.

According to Reynolds, Tampa Bay has “some interest” in bringing Conte back, but it will ultimately come down to his asking price.

Conte did mention back in November that he’d be “definitely open” to re-signing with the Bucs this offseason.

“I’m definitely open to it,” Conte said at the time. “The main thing for me has been staying healthy this year. I missed time in camp, but when I’m healthy I think I’ve been productive and showed this team I can play. I’ve enjoyed my time in Tampa.

Conte, 26, signed a one-year, $1.5 million contract that included a $250,000 signing bonus with the Buccaneers in March of last year and he’s now in position to be an unrestricted free agent in the coming weeks.

In 2015, Conte appeared in 14 games for the Buccaneers and recorded 80 tackles, two interceptions, two forced fumbles and six pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 58 safety out of 87 qualifying players.
