Buccaneers Hire Rutgers Head Coach Greg Schiano

ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have hired Rutgers coach Greg Schiano for their head coaching vacancy. Schefter adds that the two sides are currently putting the finishing touches a contract.

As of last night, it was believed that Mike Sherman was the favorite to get the job but now reports have mentioned that he’s meeting with the Miami Dolphins regarding this offensive coordinator position.

Schiano reportedly got a recommendation from Patriots head coach Bill Belichick which certainly can’t hurt you chances. Schiano is known as a more conservative coach that puts a strong emphasis on discipline. Considering the other candidates that were brought in, Schiano seems like the most conservative option that the team was considering but that’s not exactly a bad thing. Schiano was one of the finalists for the Rams job as well so he’s made a good impression on a number of NFL teams.
