Ian Rapoport of NFL Media is reporting that Buccaneers LB Lavonte David is believed to have a suffered a high-ankle sprain during Sunday’s loss to the Vikings.

According to Rapoport, David is still expected to undergo an MRI on Monday to determine the severity of the injury.

High-ankle sprains typically cost a player between 4-6 weeks to heal, so it’s likely David will be out of the lineup the next few weeks, depending on the MRI results.

David went down later into the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game and was taken off the field on a cart. The good news for Davis was that X-rays on his ankle came back negative.

David, 27, is a former second-round pick of the Buccaneers back in 2012. He’s currently in the third year of his six-year, $51.11 million contract that includes $25.56 million guaranteed and stands to make base salaries of $6 million and $8.76 million over the next two years.

Entering today, David had appeared in one game and recorded nine tackles, no sacks or interceptions and one fumble recovery.

We’ll have more regarding David as the news is available.
