Buccaneers Operating As Though OC Jeff Tedford Won’t Be Back This Season

Update:

Buccaneers HC Lovie Smith told reporters on Wednesday that they are moving forward as if offensive coordinator Jeff Tedford won’t be back this season.

“We’re going on as if Jeff [Tedford] won’t be back with us the rest of the year,” Smith said, per Jenna Laine.

Tampa Bay has already announced that Tedford is on an indefinite leave of absence as he has not shown improvement following a heart procedure he underwent a few weeks ago.

We wish Tedford the best in his recovery from his medical procedure.

Ian Rapoport reports that Buccaneers OC Jeff Tedford will take a leave of absence from the team as he his medical condition has not improved as anticipated.

  • Rapoport adds that Tampa Bay wants him to be 100 percent healthy upon returning.
  • According to Rapoport, QB coach Marcus Arroyo will continue to be heavily involved in game-planning.

Recent reports mentioned that Tedford was expected to be back in Week 4 at a full capacity, however, it looks like the Bucs will have to continue relying on the rest of their staff to get their struggling offense turned around in the coming weeks.

Tedford was force to undergo a medical procedure six days before the start of the regular season, which has prevented him from calling plays or take part in normal game-day activities.

Starting QB Josh McCown is out with what’s being called a severe thumb sprain, so Mike Glennon will be the starting quarterback for the foreseeable future.
