Buccaneers Open To Adding Competition At QB

Buccaneers head coach Greg Schiano told reporters on Monday that he’s open to bringing in someone to compete with QB Josh Freeman next season.

The one thing I do believe in is competition at every spot, including the quarterback so I want to have as many good players on our football team as we can at every single position,” said Schiano, via the Tampa Bay Times. “It’s a little different in the NFL.

Freeman, 24, finished the 2012 season with 4065 yards passing to go along with 27 touchdowns and 17 interceptions. Clearly, Dan Orlovsky isn’t going to push Freeman for the starting job at all next season, so it makes sense to bring in someone that Freeman will have to hold off during training camp. The Bucs still believe in Freeman’s ability, but they need to find ways to get him to take the next step as an NFL quarterback.
