Buccaneers Place G J.R. Sweezy & WR Louis Murphy On PUP List, Sign G Joel Hale

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced that they’ve placed G J.R. Sweezy and WR Louis Murphy on the active/PUP list.

  • The Bucs also announced that they’ve signed rookie G Joel Hale to a contract and waived G Garrett Gilkey with a failed physical designation.
  • Tampa Bay added S Elijah Shumate on the active/non-football-injury list as well.

Players placed on the active/PUP list can return to practice once activated. However, if they remain on PUP list to start the regular season, they would miss at least the first six weeks.

PewterReport is reporting that Sweezy suffered a back injury, which led to him being added tot he PUP list.

Sweezy, 27, was taken in the seventh-round of the 2012 NFL Draft. He’s played out his rookie contract and was one of the better guard in this year’s free agent market.

The Buccaneers signed Sweezy to a five year, $32.5 million contract that includes $14.5 million guaranteed. He stands to make a base salary of $4.5 million for the 2016 season.

In 2015, Sweezy appeared in 15 games for the Seahawks and was rated by Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 69 guard out of 82 qualifying players.
