Buccaneers Place RB Charles Sims On Injured Reserve, Promote FB Austin Johnson

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced that they’ve placed RB Charles Sims on season-ending injured reserve and promoted FB Austin Johnson to their active roster on Wednesday.

  • The Buccaneers signed RB Blake Sims and DE Deonte Gibson to their practice squad. (NFLTR)
  • The Buccaneers released OL Kyler Kerbyson from their practice squad.

Sims, 26, is a former third-round pick of the Buccaneers back in 2014. He’s currently in the third year of his four-year, $3.104 million contract and set to make a base salary of $650,000 this season.

The Buccaneers placed Sims on injured reserve earlier in the year before designating him as their player to return a few weeks ago and recently activating him.

In 2016, Sims has appeared in seven games for the Buccaneers and ran for 149 yards on 51 carries (2.9 YPC) to go along with 24 receptions for 190 yards receiving and two total touchdowns.
