Buccaneers Release DT Albert Haynesworth

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have announced that they have released DT Albert Haynesworth. Haynesworth was claimed off of waivers from the Patriots on November 9th and wound up playing in six of the teams seven games. He tallied 20 tackles and 2 pass defensed but wasn’t able to showcase his previous ability. The decision to move on from Haynesworth had a lot to do with his $7.2 million combines salary but his performance has been in decline for a number of years so that had to factor into the decision as well. Buccaneers GM Mark Dominik said of Haynesworth: “He was very professional and we now wish him all the best as he moves forward.” This will clear another $7.2 million in cap space for a team that already had over $61 million available. Dominik mentioned yesterday that they intend to be active in the free agent market this year so you can expect to hear a lot rumors regarding some of the best players available in this years free agent market.
