Buccaneers Release Veteran WR Lavelle Hawkins

The Buccaneers have released veteran WR Lavelle Hawkins, according to ESPN’s Adam Caplan.

Tampa Bay signed Hawkins to a contract back in April, so he has had enough of time to learn the system and compete for a starting job, which can be said for all veterans in training camp.

Hawkins, 28, signed a one-year contract with the Chargers last season after spending the first five years of his career with the Titans.

He appeared in just four games for San Diego in 2013, but didn’t register any offensive stats. According to Pro Football Focus, Hawkins played just 11 offensive snaps last year.
