Buccaneers RT Demar Dotson Holding Out For New Contract

Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times reports that Buccaneers RT Demar Dotson‘s absence from the team’s recent OTA practices is contract-related and could result in a prolonged holdout.

According to Auman, the Bucs and Dotson’s representatives have been engaged in contract negotiations regarding a long-term extension.

Dotson, 29, still has two years remaining on his four-year, $7.5 million contract that included $2 million guaranteed. He stands to make base salaries of $1.5 million and $1.75 million over the next two years.

For a starting offensive tackle, a $1.5 million base salary is a steal for the Buccaneers, so you can see why Dotson believes he’s deserving of a raise.

However, Auman notes that negotiating a contract extension with Dotson would set a precedent for players holding out of offseason workouts, even though they have multiple years remaining on their contract.

In 2014, Dotson appeared in all 16 games for the Buccaneers and was rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 28 offensive tackle out of 84 qualifying players.
