Buccaneers Starting Doug Martin Over LeGarrette Blount?

Pat Yasinskas of ESPN is projecting that the Buccaneers will start first-round pick Doug Martin over LeGarrette Blount next season.

Yasinskas notes that “Blount will get some carries, but Martin’s an all-purpose back.”

There’s been a lot talk regarding Blounts one-dimensional skill set, so this really shouldn’t come as surprise. He hasn’t been a reliable target catching the ball out of the backfield and for a big guy, his blocking has been average at best.

Before entering the draft, Martin excelled in the passing game, but still needs to work on protection, which is pretty common among rookie running backs. Blount would be a very good change-of-pace player for them, much like Brandon Jacobs was for the Giants the last few seasons.
