Buccaneers Unlikely To Pick Up DE Adrian Clayborn’s Fifth-Year Option

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, citing a league source, reports that  it’s “doubtful” the Buccaneers will pick up DE Adrian Clayborn‘s fifth-year option in the coming weeks.

  • Florio’s sources added that they have no intention of trading Clayborn either.

Tampa Bay will have until May 3 to make a decision regarding Clayborn’s option, but it appears as though they will allow him to enter the final year of his rookie contract.

The option would cost the Bucs $6.969 million for the 2015 season, but it’s worth noting that this figure is only guaranteed for injury.

Clayborn, 25, will make $1,494,567 for the upcoming season. Last year, he appeared in all 16 games for Tampa Bay and totaled 64 tackles, six sacks and two forced fumbles.

However, Pro Football Focus rated him as the No. 47 defensive end in a 4-3 system out of 52 qualifying players. According to their rating, Clayborn was one of the worst pass-rushing 4-3 defensive ends, so this will be an area he’ll need to work on next year.
