Buccaneers Waive S D.J. Swearinger & LB Orie Lemon

The Buccaneers have placed LB Orie Lemon and S D.J. Swearinger on waivers Tuesday, according to Greg Auman.

Swearinger, 23, is a former second-round pick of the Texans out of South Carolina back in 2013. He still has two years remaining on his four-year, $3.49 million rookie contract, which includes base salaries of $722,390 and $881,085 over the next two years.

The Texans waived Swearinger shortly after the draft, but he was later claimed by the Buccaneers.

This season, Swearinger has appeared in seven games for the Buccaneers and recorded 12 tackles and a fumble recovery.

Lemon, 27, originally signed on with the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent out of Oklahoma State back in 2011. He spent close to two years with Dallas before joining the Chiefs and Cardinals in short stints.

The Buccaneers wound up signing him off of the Chiefs’ practice squad back in October of last year. Since then, he’s been on and off of the team’s practice squad.

This season, Lemon has appeared in six games for the Buccaneers and recorded two tackles.
