Buccaneers & WR Mike Evans In “Very Early” Stages Of Contract Talks

Jason La Canfora, citing league sources, reports that the Buccaneers are exploring a new contract for WR MIke Evans.

According to La Canfora, the two parties are still in the “very early” stages of negotiations but dialogue has taken place, even though Evans has another two years remaining on his rookie contract.

One reason for discussing a deal this early for Evans could be to get an agreement in place before the Giants address Odell Beckham‘s contract, which is widely expected to be the new high water mark when completed.

As of now, La Canfora says that neither side is approaching this situation with a sense of urgency.

Evans, 24, is a former No. 1 overall pick of the Buccaneers back in 2014. He’s currently in the final year of his four-year, $14.631 million contract and stands to make a base salary of $690,000 for the 2017 season.

However, the Buccaneers elected to pick up his fifth-year option this past April, which will keep him under team control through the 2019 season.

In 2017, Evans appeared in one game and caught seven passes for 93 yards receiving and one touchdown.

We’ll have more regarding the Bucs and Evans as the news is available.
