Buccaneers WR Mike Evans One-Game Suspension Upheld

Update:

The NFL announced Tuesday that Buccaneers WR Mike Evans one-game suspension has been upheld.

Evans released the following statement regarding the news:

“I want to sincerely apologize for my actions during Sunday’s game. I saw my quarterback getting shoved and I let my emotions get the better of me. My response was not appropriate and not a true indication of who I am as a player and a person. I take pride in playing the game the right way and I realize it was unprofessional and hurt my team.

The NFL announced Monday that Buccaneers WR Mike Evans has been suspended one game for his actions during Sunday’s game.

  • Ian Rapoport reports that Evans is appealing the one-game suspension.

The Buccaneers including Evans and HC Dirk Koetter seemed to think a suspension could be coming for the Pro Bowl receiver for his blindside hit on Saints CB Marshon Lattimore yesterday, so this shouldn’t come as a big surprise.

Evans, 24, is a former first-round pick of the Buccaneers back in 2014. He’s currently in the final year of his four-year, $14.631 million and stands to make a base salary of $690,000 for the 2017 season.

The Buccaneers will obviously pick up his fifth-year option next April, which will keep him under team control through the 2018 season.

In 2017, Evans has appeared in eight games for the Buccaneers and caught 40 passes for 532 yards receiving and four touchdowns for the Buccaneers.
