Buccaneers WR Vincent Jackson Won’t Return This Year, Time In Tampa Bay Could Be Over

Alex Marvez of the Sporting News reports that although Buccaneers WR Vincent Jackson received some good news regarding his left knee injury, he will still miss the remainder of the 2016 season.

Sources tell Marvez that additional testing revealed that Jackson did not suffer a torn ACL but he still has enough damage to his knee that it will prevent him from returning from injured reserve.

Beyond that, Marvez admits that it’s possible Jackson has played his final game for the Buccaneers.

According to Marvez, the expectation right now is that the Buccaneers will designate RB Charles Sims as their player to return from injured reserve at some point.

Upon being placed on injured reserve, Jackson released the following statement:

This is obviously very disappointing for me personally. I had high hopes for this season because I know what we are capable of accomplishing as a team. My top priority going into every season is being out there with my teammates and helping my team any way possible. While I may not be on the field for the foreseeable future, I will be focused on beginning my rehab as soon as possible and finding ways to support my teammates in whatever way I can.”

Jackson, 33, is in the final year of his five-year, $55,555,555 contract that included $26 million guaranteed. He’ll make a base salary of  $9,777,778 for the 2016 season before testing the open market next year.

In 2016, Jackson appeared in five games for the Buccaneers and recorded 15 receptions for 173 yards receiving and no touchdowns.

We’ll have more regarding Jackson’s future with the Buccaneers as the news is available.
