Bucs GM Jason Licht Suggests They Won’t Trade DeSean Jackson

On Sunday, a report surfaced that Buccaneers WR DeSean Jackson had requested a trade.

However, Bucs GM Jason Licht implied before Sunday’s game that they won’t be granting Jackson’s trade request.

I’ll say this. DeSean Jackson and I have a great relationship,” Licht said, via Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times. “He’s one of my favorite people on the team, and Dirk [Koetter] has a great relationship with him and he’s obviously a terrific player for us.

“We’re 3-3, we’re headed into big game today, we’ve got a big stretch of games coming up for us, and we don’t like to talk about these stories. But I can say that my job and our job here is to field the best roster that we can to win games, and DeSean is a huge, huge part of that, not just today, but for the rest of the season. Other than that, I don’t have anything else to add.

Jackson, 31, is a former second-round pick of the Eagles back in 2008. He spent six years with the Eagles before signing a three-year, $24 million contract with the Redskins back in 2014.

After three years with the Redskins, Jackson once again departed in free agency and agreed to a three-year, $35 million contract that includes $20 million guaranteed with the Buccaneers. He stands to make base salaries of $11 million and $10 million over the next two years of the agreement.

In 2018, Jackson has appeared in six games for the Buccaneers and caught 23 passes for 526 yards receiving and three touchdowns. He has also rushed for 15 yards and a touchdown.

We’ll have more regarding a potential trade involving Jackson as the news is available.
