C.J. Spiller Says He Wants To Be Back With Bills, But The “Ball Is In Their Court”

Bills free agent RB C.J. Spiller said during an interview with Sirius XM NFL Radio that he wants to be back in Buffalo next season, but according to him, the “ball is in [the Bills] court.”

The feeling is apparently mutual, as new Bills HC Rex Ryan also mentioned that they would really like to have him return for the 2015 season.

We’d certainly like to have him back and remain a Buffalo Bill,” Ryan said, via Syracuse.com. “He’s a talented guy. I would think that he would want to do that, being in this kind of system, seeing the success that other backs have had in this kind of system. But we’ll see how it works out, also recognizing that, the NFL, sometimes you’re not always able to keep the guys you really want.

Last week, Bills GM Doug Whaley confirmed that they had a meeting lined up with Spiller’s agent and were hoping to “close the gap.”

“(Senior VP of Football Administration) Jim Overdorf, (President) Russ Brandon and (Contract Administrator) Kevin Meganck are meeting with his representation right here at the combine,” Whaley said, via BuffaloBills.com. “We’re hoping we can close the gap and get the deal done.”

However, Whaley admitted that there’s still work to be done in the coming weeks.

There’s going to have to be some work done, but I’m confident that we’ll each come to the table with an open mind and try to get a deal done that’s great for both sides,” said Whaley.

There has been a lot of buzz that Spiller could consider signing with the Jets, who have hired former Bills HC Chan Gailey as their new offensive coordinator.

Spiller, 27, finished out his five-year, $25,672,087 rookie contract with the Bills that included $11,854,169 guaranteed and is now in position to be an unrestricted free agent in the coming weeks.

In 2014, Spiller was limited to appearing in nine games and rushing for 300 yards on 78 carries (3.8 YPC) to go along with 19 receptions for 125 yards receiving and one touchdown.

We have Spiller currently listed as the No. 38 player in our Top 1oo Free Agents list.
