Cardinals Close To Signing Veteran P Andy Lee

According to Mike Jurecki of Arizona Sports 98.7, the Cardinals are close to signing veteran P Andy Lee to a contract and a deal could be in place as soon as Monday.

If the Cardinals are able to get an agreement in place with Lee, Jurecki mentions that they’ll likely release P Matt Wile.

The Cardinals and Lee have been linked to one another for close to a week now after reports surfaced that Lee was available for trade and Arizona was a team to keep an eye on.

Lee, 35, is a former sixth-round pick of the 49ers back in 2004. After 11 seasons in San Francisco, he was traded to the Browns and spent a year in Cleveland.

Interestingly enough, the Browns traded Lee to the Panthers for a 2017 seventh-round pick.

Lee shad another two years remaining on his seven-year, $21.6 million contract that included $3.6 million guaranteed and was set to make base salaries of $3.433 million (2017), and $4.134 million (2018) over the next two years.

In 2016, Lee appeared in nine games for the Panthers and totaled 1,533 punt yards on 36 attempts and four touchbacks.

We’ll have more regarding Lee and the Cardinals as the news is available.
