Cardinals “Actively” Trying To Re-Sign Matt Shaughnessy

The agent for Cardinals OLB Matt Shaughnessy, Rich Rosa, tells Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic that the Cardinals are in “actively” trying to re-sign client.

They are actively trying to re-sign him,” Rosa said. “He wants to be there, so we’ll see how it goes.”

Shaughnessy, 27, made the transition from a defensive end to an outside linebacker in a 3-4 system since signing with the Cardinals last year.

In 2013, Shaughnessy totaled three sacks, 19 quarterback hurries and 29 tackles. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 34 outside linebacker in 3-4 system.

There isn’t a lot of depth at outside linebacker in this year’s free agent market, so it would make sense for them to hold onto Shaughnessy if he’s willing to accept a reasonably priced contract in the days leading up to free agency.
