Cardinals Claim QB Alek Torgersen Off Waivers From Lions

Mike Garafolo reports that the Cardinals have claimed QB Alek Torgersen off of waivers from the Lions on Thursday.

Torgersen, 23, wound up signing a three-year, $1.66 million contract with the Falcons as an undrafted free agent out of Pennsylvania back in May. He was set to make base salaries of $465,000 and $555,000 over the first two years of the contract when the Falcons cut him loose coming out of the preseason.

Torgersen later signed on to the Redskins’ practice squad before he was released during the season. The Lions signed him to their practice squad in December and brought him back on a futures deal this past January.

Detroit elected to waive Torgersen on Wednesday after signing Matt Cassel.

During his college career, Torgersen threw for 7,025 yards while completing 65.1 percent of his passes to go along with 52 touchdowns and 18 interceptions. He also rushed for 912 yards and 18 touchdowns over the course of 30 games.
