Cardinals & Chris Johnson Discussed Contract Extension This Week

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Arizona Cardinals have been so impressed with RB Chris Johnson this week that they had discussions with him this week about a contract extension.

However, no deal is considered imminent at this point in time, according to Schefter.

Cardinals GM Steve Keim recently mentioned during an appearance on Arizona Sports 98.7. that Johnson’s current deal is “something we will look at” in regards to a potential extension, via AzCardinals.com.

Darren Urban writes that even though Johnson has been a solid addition to their offense, Keim and the Cardinals have been cautious with older veterans who are on one-year deals.

With this in mind, Urban believes Arizona will stick to a specific number that they have mind for Johnson, or move on without him.

Johnson, 30, signed on with the Cardinals back in August and received a  one-year, $870,000 contract, which means he would be an unrestricted free agent next March.

This season, Johnson has appeared in five games and ran for 405 yards on 79 carries (5.1 YPC) to go along with four receptions for 51 yards receiving and two total touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 52 running back out of 58 qualifying players.
