Ellis, 27, is a former first-round pick of the New Orleans Saints, but he has yet to live up to his draft status. This offseason, Ellis has found almost no interest on the open market, despite the fact that he’s still young and there were very few options available at defensive tackle.
Arizona could use some additional depth on their defensive line and they should be able to get him under contract for a very reasonable sum of money. The problem with Ellis is that he offers almost nothing in terms of interior pass rush and has also struggled against the run in recent years, so he’s really more a guy who just takes up space. If he’s signed at some point in the near future, it’s doubtful that he would be guaranteed a roster spot.
