Cardinals G Mike Iupati Expected To Miss 2-4 Weeks With Ankle Injury

Mike Jurecki of FOX Sports 910 is hearing that Cardinals veteran G Mike Iupati does not have a fracture, but he’s dealing with a ligament tear in his ankle and expected to miss 2-4 weeks as a result.

The Cardinals placed G Evan Mathis on injured reserve yesterday and signed Ulrick John from the Dolphins’ practice squad, but there will be questions about their interior offensive line while Iupati is out.

Iupati, 29, is a former first-round pick of the 49ers back in 2010. After five years in San Francisco, Iupati signed on with the Cardinals as an unrestricted free agent back in March of last year.

Iupati is currently in the second year of his five-year, $40 million contract that includes $22.5 million guaranteed and was set to make a base salary of $4.5 million for the 2016 season before he agreed to restructure his contract last week.

This year, Iupati has appeared in all five games for the Cardinals and is rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 8 guard out of 71 qualifying players.

We’ll have more regarding Iupati as the news is available.
