Cardinals G Mike Iupati Headed To Injured Reserve Following Elbow Surgery

Cardinals HC Bruce Arians announced Friday that veteran G Mike Iupati will require surgery for a bone spur in his elbow and is headed to injured reserve, per Darren Urban.

Beyond that, G Alex Boone is expected to be out a couple of weeks with a pectoral injury.

This will cost Iupati the next eight weeks of the season, but he could be a candidate to return later on in the year.

Iupati, 39, is a former first-round pick of the 49ers back in 2010. He played out his rookie contract with the 49ers before signing a five-year, $40 million contract with $22.5 million guaranteed with the Cardinals back in 2015.

Iupati stands to make base salaries of $8 million and $7.75 million over the next two years.

In 2017, Iupati has appeared in one game.
