Cardinals Have “Had Enough” Of Logan Thomas?

Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com writes that second-year QB Logan Thomas may no longer be a member of the Cardinals at the start of the season.

Weinfuss mentions that from what he’s observed during Cardinals’ OTAs and minicamp, HC Bruce Arians may have “had enough” of Thomas, who barely participated in the team’s final OTA.

Arians told reporters that Thomas lack of reps was due to him practicing a lot the day before.

However, Weinfuss points out that Thomas’ place in the quarterback rotation has continued to fluctuate and a quarterback who was really considered a third-string option would likely have been taking reps behind Drew Stanton consistently.

Thomas was considered by many to be a big project at quarterback coming out of Virginia Tech, so this probably doesn’t come as a huge surprise.

Arians has said previously that the No. 3 quarterback job is wide open, and Chandler Harnish and undrafted rookie Phillip Sims are likely to be in the mix for the job.

Thomas, 23, still has another three years remaining on his four-year, $2,652,092 rookie contract, which includes base salaries of $510,000 (2015), $600,000 (2016), and $690,000 (2017).

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing Thomas would free up $293,954 in available cap space while creating $324,069 in dead money.

Last year, Thomas appeared in two games for the Cardinals, even though they lost Carson Palmer and Stanton for the season. He threw for 81 yards and a touchdown, but completed just a single pass attempt.
