Cardinals Hoping To Restructure Kevin Kolb’s Contract

Arizona Cardinals president Michael Bidwill mentioned that they’ll consider restructuring Kevin Kolb‘s contract at some point during the offseason.

Kevin’s contract is probably something we’re going to need to address,” said Bidwill, via  ArizonaSports.com. “It’s a big number and given the productivity and the questions about durability and everything, that’s something that I think the reality is we need to sit down and discuss.

Kolb, 28, is set to make a $9 million base salary that includes a $2 million roster bonus that will be due on March 15. There’s no question that Kolb’s production doesn’t equate to this kind of salary, but the Cardinals appear to be open to keeping him on their roster. It will be interesting to see if Kolb is receptive to reworking his contract.

Bidwill added that the team’s new coaching staff will meet to discuss potential free agent targets this week.

Alex Smith‘s name has come up as a speculative option for the Cardinals if he ends up being released by the 49ers. It seems safe to assume that the Cardinals will be looking to bring in some competition at the quarterback position, even if Kolb is retained.
