Cardinals Interested Re-Signing OLB Kareem Martin

Mike Jurecki of ArizonaSports.com is hearing that the Cardinals would like to retain OLB Kareem Martin, who is finishing out his four-year rookie contract and will be unrestricted free agent next year.

Jurecki adds that Martin has not only been a quality edge defender for the Cardinals, but is also a decent special teams contributor and would give Arizona some decent depth at outside linebacker.

As of now, the Cardinals have Chandler Jones, Haason Reddick and Bryson Allen at outside linebacker to go along with Martin. It’s worth mentioning that Markus Golden will be returning from a torn ACL next year.

Martin, 25, is a former third-round draft pick by the Cardinals out of North Carolina back in 2014. He is finishing out his four-year, $2,843,560 rookie contract and stands to make a base salary of $710,000 this season before testing the open market as an unrestricted free agent in 2018.

So far this season, Martin has appeared in 12 games and recorded 14 total tackles, one interception, and two pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 68 overall edge defender out of 115 qualifying players.
