Cardinals Met With G Evan Mathis Today & Offered Him A Two-Year Deal

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Cardinals hosted veteran G Evan Mathis for a visit on Tuesday and offered him a two-year deal.

This helps to explain why they included OL Jonathan Cooper in a trade for DE Chandler Jones that was announced earlier in the day.

Mathis, 34, is a former third-round pick of the Panthers back in 2005. He wound up traveling around a bit after he was waived by the Bengals, playing for the Dolphins and Bengals before signing on with the Eagles in 2011.

Philadelphia elected to cut Mathis loose in June of last year after being on the trading block for awhile, but he managed to secure a one-year deal with the Broncos before the start of the season.

In 2015, Mathis appeared in all 16 games for the Broncos and was rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 3 guard out of 81 qualifying players.
