Cardinals Officially Release RB Adrian Peterson

The Arizona Cardinals announced Tuesday that they’ve officially released veteran RB Adrian Peterson.

  • The Cardinals also tendered an offer to restricted free agent DT Xavier Williams.

Peterson, 32, is a former first-round pick of the Vikings back in 2007. After 10 seasons in Minnesota, Peterson signed a two-year, $7 million contract with the Saints and stands to make base salaries of $1 million and $1.05 million over the next two years.

The Saints elected to trade Peterson to the Cardinals before this year’s deadline after things didn’t go as expected in New Orleans. The Saints will receive a 2018 sixth-round pick from the Cardinals for Peterson.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing Peterson will free up $2,881,250 of available cap space while creating no dead money.

In 2017, Peterson appeared in 10 games for the Saints and Cardinals and rushed for 529 yards on 156 carries (3.4 YPC) to go along with 11 receptions for 70 yards receiving and two total touchdowns.
