Cardinals OLB Daryl Washington Suspended 4 Games

Darren Urban first reported that the NFL has suspended Cardinals OLB Daryl Washington for four games of 2013 regular season after he violated league’s substance abuse policy.

  • Adam Schefter reports that Washington has a $10 million option bonus due one the last day of the 2013 league year.
  • Brian McIntyre notes that Washington $564,706 of his $2.4 million base salary.

“I was always taught that when you make a mistake, you admit it, learn from it and face whatever consequences there are,” said Washington in statement released on Wednesday. “I take full responsibility and I understand that I let down my teammates, the organization and fans. I apologize for that and promise that no one will work harder to make up for it.

Washington, 26, signed a six-year, $32.5 million contract back in September and is coming off of a very solid season that included 134 tackles, nine sacks, and two forced fumbles. This is a sizable blow to the Cardinals defense.
