Cardinals Pick Up $1.5M Of Cap Space By Reworking G Mike Iupati’s Contract

Field Yates of ESPN reports that the Cardinals picked up $1.5 million of cap space by restructuring the contract of G Mike Iupati.

According to Yates, the Cardinals accomplished this by converted $2 million of Iupati’s salary into a signing bonus.

Iupati, 29, is a former first-round pick of the 49ers back in 2010. After five years in San Francisco, Iupati signed on with the Cardinals as an unrestricted free agent back in March of last year.

Iupati is currently in the second year of his five-year, $40 million contract that includes $22.5 million guaranteed and was set to make a base salary of $4.5 million for the 2016 season.

This year, Iupati has appeared in all four games for the Cardinals and is rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 12 guard out of 74 qualifying players.
