Cardinals Place RB Chris Johnson On Short-Term I.R.

The Arizona Cardinals announced that they’ve placed RB Chris Johnson on injured reserve with the designation to return Tuesday.

Johnson will now be eligible to return to the Cardinals in the event they make it to the Super Bowl.

Arizona was reportedly mulling over what to do with Johnson after he fractured his tibia during Sunday’s game against the 49ers and was expected to miss the next six to eight weeks.

Johnson, 30, signed one-year, $870,000 contract with the Cardinals that included $400,000 guaranteed. The agreement has another $1.13 million is available through incentives.

This season, Johnson has ran for 814 yards on 196 carries (4.2 YPC) to go along with six receptions for 58 yards receiving and three total touchdowns.

Williams, 26, is a former seventh-round pick of the Colts back in 2013. He spent around six months in Indianapolis before he was waived and later signed to the Chargers’ practice squad.

He’s been on and off of the Cardinals’ roster since the start of the 2014 season.

This season, Williams has one carry for three yards and no touchdowns.
